How to Make Your Own Pocky

Pocky, or Mikado, the UK's similar counterpart, are little biscuit sticks dipped in chocolate. Who know's what makes such a simple formula quite so moreish and tasty? Pocky are also one of the staples of Japanese candies, along with the likes of Hello Panda, gummy candies and mochi! 


Sadly Pocky are tricky to get hold of in the UK, so it might be simpler to master this recipe for making your own, plus there are lots of fun and exciting ways to 'pimp-your-pocky', whether that means coating them in crumbled up candied hazelnuts, smothering them in pink chocolate or sprinkling them with popping candy!

You Will Need

  • 1/4 Cup Carnation Condensed Milk
  • 2 Tbsp Water
  • 1 Cup Self-Raising Flour
  • 2 Tbsp Sugar
  • 1/4 Cup Butter
  • Chocolate and Toppings


  • In a mixer, combine the dry ingredients until completely mixed.
  • Whisk together the condensed milk and water in a seperate bowl and set aside.
  • Add the butter to the dry ingredients and mix until sticky breadcrumbs are made.
  • Quickly add the condensed milk mixture to the bowl. Ensure it is fully incorporated.
  • Place the dough in cling film and place in the fridge for 20 mins.
  • Roll out and cut into pocky-sized sticks. Remember if your dough is thin they will cook very quickly.
  • Cook at 180c and check after 5 mins. Ensure they are golden.
  • Dip your pocky in melted chocolate, and sprinkle with delights such as chopped nuts, popping candy, sherbet, sprinkles and more!
