Japan is known to be one of the healthiest countries in the world - the fact that it has one of the longest average lifespans of any country is testament to this.
We already know that Japan's eating habits which include oily fish, low-fat proteins and lots of healthy veggies contributes to the long life of the Japanese people, but there are also plenty of Japanese lifestyle habits which also contribute.
Let's take a look at some which you can form into your own habits too!
The Japanese Love Green Spaces
The Japanese are pioneering something called 'Forest Therapy', a sort of retreat designed to take weary folk into the beautiful outdoors so they can revive both body and mind. The Japanese have always had a strong sense of love and affection for the beautiful jungles and forests that cover their little island nation, and much of the country is protected green space, regardless of Japan's huge population. Being respectful of green spaces and getting away back to our natural roots is something we should all experience more.
Bathtime is a Ritual
Are you guilty of taking a 5 minute shower in the morning before work? It's just not good for your wellbeing! The Japanese have always adored baths, and of course, hot springs. Apparently 85% of Japanese people end their day with a long, relaxing bath. It's a great way to unwind and reflect on the stresses of the day, which will help you feel revived and ready to face new challenges!
Time for Tea is Sacred
People in Japan always make time for tea. It's something we Brits share in common with them. But perhaps we need to move to a more Japanese style approach! In Japan more often than not they drink green tea, which is packed full of antioxidants and goodness! It's super hydrating, and if you buy it in loose leaf or powdered varieties and brew it slowly and properly, it's so much better for you than a builder's brew.
