Baran is simply used as a divider in sushi trays to stop pieces of sushi from sticking to each other and keep different types of foods in bento boxes separate. This box of 1000 pieces will last forever! Baran grass is essentially plastic grass used in almost all sushi boxes.

Food Fact: Barn grass's original use was as a means of preservation. Originally, sushi was made by salting the fish and then wrapping in rice before fermenting for up to six months. Large leaves were used to wrap these items up to protect them.
