The Japanese green bamboo rolling mat is a traditional tool used in Japanese cuisine, particularly in the preparation of sushi rolls, also known as maki rolls. It is typically made from thin strips of bamboo woven together with cotton string, forming a flat, rectangular mat that measures about 27cm by 27cm.

The mat's green colour comes from the natural green tint of the bamboo, and it is considered a symbol of good luck and prosperity in Japanese culture.

To use the Japanese green bamboo rolling mat, a sheet of nori seaweed is placed on top of the mat, followed by a layer of sushi rice and the desired fillings. The mat is then used to roll the ingredients into a tight cylinder, using the bamboo sticks to shape and compress the roll!
