How to Make Japanese Style Steak with Wasabi

September 22, 2015

With father's day coming up, steak is often on the menu. But you know what's better than steak? A steak cooked with Japanese flavours and plenty of delicious wasabi. Steak goes magnificently with wasabi!

This time we're cooking the meat with a teriyaki sauce - you can choose to cook on a griddle pan, or even on a BBQ if the weather is good this weekend!

You Will Need

Teriyaki Sauce

  • 5 Tbsp Soy Sauce
  • 5 Tbsp Sugar
  • 50ml Water
  • 2 Tbsp Mirin
  • 2 Tsp Ginger Paste
  • 1 Tsp Garlic Paste
  • 1 Tsp Chilli Paste
  • 2 Tsp Corn Flour
  • 1 Tsp Honey

And the rest!

  • 2 Lbs Flank Steak
  • Salt and pepper
  • Sesame Seeds
  • 1-2 Tsp Wasabi

Method

  •  To make a teriyaki glaze, start by adding all the ingredients to a saucepan apart from the corn flour and the honey. Mix well on a low simmer, then add in the corn flour. Simmer further then stir in the honey as the sauce thickens.
  • Season your steak on both sides and heat the bbq grill to the white hot coals stage. Turn regularly and cook for about 7-10 minutes depending on your preference.
  • Serve the steak hot with the wasabi on the side, and glaze the steak with the sauce. You can serve with new potatoes if you like, or a fresh cold noodle salad!
