Fusion Food Recipe: Japanese Style Burgers

February 08, 2016

If you love the traditional flavourings of Japanese food, you might want to start experimenting with adding them to traditional English and American dishes! It often results in something that might sound a bit strange at first, but when you take that first bite, you'll be convinced!

In the past we've shared recipes for Japanese inspired pizzas, but this time we're taking on the burger. There's nothing too strange about this dish - the buns aren't made out of noodles like the ramen burger we shared in the past!

It just simply involves a patty brimming with Japanese flavours, and a delicious sesame salad topping.

Let's get started!

You Will Need

  • 500g Minced Beef
  • Half a Grated Onion
  • 1 Egg
  • 1/2 Cup Panko Breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 Cup Parmesan Shavings
  • 1 Tbsp Mirin
  • 1 Tbsp Soy Sauce

For the Sesame Salad Topping:

  • 1/2 Thinly Sliced Cucumber
  • Small Handful of Kaiso Seaweed
  • 1 Tbsp Mirin
  • 1 Tbs Sesame Oil
  • 1/2 Tbsp Sriracha Sauce
  • 1 Tsp Soy Sauce
  • 1 Tsp Sesame Seeds

Method

Combine all the burger ingredients in a bowl, and mix together with your hands to ensure the ingredients are even throughout the burger. Separate out patties from the burger mixture. Depending on your taste they can be thick, thin, big or small, just ensure you adjust cooking time to suit.

Fry the burger patties on both sides in shallow oiled pan, until they are golden and cooked through.

Mix together all the ingredients for the salad in the meantime. Leave for about ten minutes to absorb the flavours of the dressing.

Serve your burgers and salad on brioche buns, or alternatively, steamed Japanese buns!
