Information

Kombu (China) 1kg
トコン 昆布 (ちな) 1KG

Quality kombu grown in China and hand selected by the Japanaese trading company Tokon. In a value 1kg pack.

Kombu grown in China is typically cultivated along the coast of the Yellow Sea and the Bohai Sea, where the water temperature and nutrient levels are ideal for kelp growth. Chinese kombu is known for its high quality and is used in a variety of dishes, such as soups, stews, and salads.

This Kombu is great for curing fish in Kombujime style or for making dashi and kombu gel.

Ways to Use Kombu:

  1. Dashi: Kombu is a key ingredient in dashi, a traditional Japanese stock used as a base for soups, stews, and sauces. To make dashi, kombu is simmered in water with other ingredients such as bonito flakes or shiitake mushrooms.

  2. Seasoning: Kombu has a savoury, umami-rich flavour and can be used as a seasoning for a variety of dishes. It can be added to rice dishes, noodles, soups, and stews to enhance their flavour.

  3. Sushi: Kombu is often used to make sushi rolls. It is typically placed on top of sushi rice before adding other ingredients, such as fish or vegetables.

  4. Pickling: Kombu can be used to pickle vegetables, such as cucumbers or carrots, adding flavour and texture to the finished dish.

  5. Snacks: Kombu can be seasoned with salt, sugar, or other flavourings and dried to make a crispy, flavourful snack.
