Although homemade dashi imparts great flavour, there is no reason in the modern world not to use dried instant dashi powder. The Japanese are more likely to use instant dashi than make their own homemade stock, and instant dashi has been popular since the 1960s. With all that time to refine and develop and excellent substitute for dashi which saves a lot of time, the taste is now excellent and very acceptable for use in everyday cooking.
This instant dashi is made from dried sardines, dried mackerel and dried bonito, and is ideal if you want to quickly whip up a batch of stock to make miso soup, ramen or Japanese hot pot, without the fuss, mess and time it takes to make real fresh dashi stock.
This dashi powder sachet is enough to make one large batch of dashi stock, which you can store in a airtight container in your fridge to use whenever you need. Alternatively, if you just want to create the dashi stock as and when you need it, that's no problem! Just measure out the amount you need from the sachet and fold and seal it carefully for use later.åÊ
