Mino Ware, Hiwa Yellow-Green Leaf Tapas Dish, 91x42x24mm
91 x 42 x 24mm: a small leaf-shaped dish in hiwa yellow-green, a spring colour for small bites.
Pre-order: arriving in the UK in late October 2026
This Mino ware dish is shaped like a leaf, 91mm long, 42mm wide and 24mm high, and glazed in hiwa yellow-green. Its long, narrow form suits things laid in a line: a few slices, a skewer, a row of pickles.
Why Chefs Choose This
- Leaf shape: a natural form that brings a seasonal touch to the table
- Long and narrow: ideal for sliced or skewered food
- Fresh colour: a bright yellow-green that lifts pale food
- Shallow: 24mm deep, so everything is on show
How to Use
- Skewers: a single yakitori or kushiage
- Sliced bites: tamagoyaki, kamaboko or a few slices of sashimi
- Pickles: a line of pickled ginger or cucumber
- Sweets: yokan slices or a couple of chocolates
Hiwa-iro (鵜色) is a traditional Japanese colour name for the bright yellow-green of the siskin, a small finch called hiwa. Leaf-shaped dishes are a long-standing way of bringing the season to the table in Japanese dining. Mino ware (美濃焼) comes from the Tono area of Gifu Prefecture, around towns such as Tajimi and Toki, and is Japan's largest ceramic tableware tradition, with more than a thousand years of kiln history behind it.
What colour is hiwa?
Hiwa is a traditional Japanese colour: a lively yellow-green named after the plumage of the hiwa, or siskin. It sits between leaf green and lemon. On a leaf-shaped dish it reads as fresh spring growth, and it looks especially good with white, pink and brown food.

What will fit on a leaf dish this size?
At 91 x 42mm it is narrow, so think in rows: a single skewer, three or four slices of tamagoyaki or sashimi, or a line of pickles. It is a small, decorative dish rather than a portion plate.
Is it dishwasher and microwave safe?
We are waiting on the maker's care guidance and will add it here before the stock lands, so we are not going to guess. Until it arrives, hand washing in warm soapy water with a soft sponge is the safe choice for glazed Japanese tableware. Let it dry fully before stacking or putting it away.
When will my pre-order arrive?
This dish is on a container due in the UK in late October 2026. Order now to reserve one, and we will send it out once the stock has landed and been checked in. If the arrival date moves, we will let you know.
