Kohiki (粉引), meaning powder-drawn, is a finish that came to Japan from Korean pottery: dark clay is dipped in white slip and glazed, so the piece looks as if dusted with flour, with the darker body showing faintly at edges and in specks. Japanese tea masters admired it for its soft, quiet surface. This is a kohiki-style Mino ware dish from Gifu Prefecture.
What is kohiki?
Kohiki is a white finish made by coating a darker clay with white slip before glazing. The result is a warm, slightly speckled off-white rather than a flat white, with the darker clay peeping through at the rim or in small spots. It came to Japan from Korea and remains a favourite style for everyday tableware.

Is it dishwasher and microwave safe?
