Mino Ware, Oribe Green Bowl, 94x53mm
94 x 53mm: a small, deep Oribe green bowl, the classic Mino glaze at a kobachi size.
Pre-order: arriving in the UK in late October 2026
This is a small Mino ware bowl, 94mm across and 53mm high, in Oribe green. It is what Japanese kitchens call a kobachi: a little bowl for the side dishes that make up a set meal. The depth holds dressings and liquid well, and the green gives plain food a lift.
Why Chefs Choose This
- Holds its dressing: 53mm of depth keeps sunomono, ohitashi and marinated dishes contained
- The Mino glaze: Oribe green is the glaze Mino is best known for
- Set-meal sizing: one portion of a side dish, pickle or dessert
- Good value in multiples: priced to buy as a set for a table or a menu
How to Use
- Kobachi sides: sunomono, spinach ohitashi, hijiki or kinpira
- Pickles: a small pile of tsukemono alongside rice
- Desserts: a scoop of ice cream, anmitsu or fruit
- Snacks: nuts, edamame or olives with drinks
Oribe (織部) is the copper-green glaze most closely tied to Mino. It takes its name from Furuta Oribe, the warrior and tea master whose bold taste shaped Mino pottery at the end of the sixteenth century, and it fires to a glassy green that pools deeper where the glaze runs thick. Mino ware comes from the Tono area of Gifu Prefecture, Japan's largest ceramic tableware region.
What is a kobachi?
Kobachi (小鉢) means small bowl. In a Japanese set meal the rice, soup and main dish are joined by one or two small side dishes, and they are served in bowls like this. At 94 x 53mm it takes a portion of a dressed vegetable, a pickle or a dessert, and the depth stops dressings from spreading across the tray.

Does the green vary between bowls?
Expect some variation. Oribe is a glassy glaze that pools thicker in some areas and thinner in others as it fires, so the depth of green changes slightly from bowl to bowl. The shape and size are consistent.
Is it dishwasher and microwave safe?
We are waiting on the maker's care guidance and will add it here before the stock lands, so we are not going to guess. Until it arrives, hand washing in warm soapy water with a soft sponge is the safe choice for glazed Japanese tableware. Let it dry fully before stacking or putting it away.
When will my pre-order arrive?
This bowl is on a container due in the UK in late October 2026. Order now to reserve one, and we will send it out once the stock has landed and been checked in. If the arrival date moves, we will let you know.
