Oribe (織部) is the copper-green glaze most closely tied to Mino. It takes its name from Furuta Oribe, the warrior and tea master whose bold taste shaped Mino pottery at the end of the sixteenth century, and it fires to a glassy green that pools deeper where the glaze runs thick. Line decoration is common on Oribe pieces, where the glaze gathers in incised or raised lines and shows as darker green.
What is the difference between this and the Oribe Green Bowl?
Shape and pattern. The plain Oribe Green Bowl is 94 x 53mm, a deeper kobachi for dressed sides. This one is 95 x 37mm, noticeably shallower, with a line pattern, which makes it better for presenting small courses where you want the food on show.

Does the glaze vary?
Yes, a little. Oribe pools darker in the lines and thinner on raised areas, and that happens differently in every firing. Each bowl will have its own balance of light and dark green.
Is it dishwasher and microwave safe?
We are waiting on the maker's care guidance and will add it here before the stock lands, so we are not going to guess. Until it arrives, hand washing in warm soapy water with a soft sponge is the safe choice for glazed Japanese tableware. Let it dry fully before stacking or putting it away.
