Mino Ware, Ryukyu Lapis Arabesque Plate, 95x22mm

£9.99

95 x 22mm: a small lapis arabesque plate, a pop of blue for sauces, pickles and sweets.

Pre-order: arriving in the UK in late October 2026

This Mino ware plate is 95mm across and 22mm high, decorated with a lapis-blue arabesque in the Ryukyu style. It is saucer-sized, which makes it a useful individual plate and an easy way to bring the pattern to a table.

Why Chefs Choose This

  • Individual size: one per guest for sauces or small bites
  • Pattern in small doses: a flash of lapis among plainer pieces
  • A little depth: 22mm high keeps soy or dressing in place
  • Collects well: build up a set alongside the larger lapis pieces

How to Use

  • Soy and wasabi: a personal plate for sushi and sashimi
  • Pickles: a few slices of takuan or cucumber
  • Sweets: wagashi or chocolates with tea
  • Spoon rest: beside the hob or teapot

The Ryukyu name looks south to Okinawa, once the Ryukyu Kingdom, whose pottery (yachimun) is known for bold, generous decoration. The arabesque is karakusa (唐草), the scrolling vine pattern that travelled to Japan along the Silk Road and has been a favourite on Japanese tableware ever since. This piece is Mino ware, made in Gifu Prefecture, Japan's largest ceramic tableware region. The lapis colourway is a deep, mineral blue, named after lapis lazuli, which makes pale and green food look especially fresh.

What can I use a 95mm plate for?

At 95 x 22mm it is about saucer size. Use it for soy sauce and wasabi, a condiment, a couple of pickles or a sweet with tea. It is also a good way to add the lapis arabesque to a table of plainer tableware.

Is there a rust version?

Yes. The same 95 x 22mm plate is arriving in the rust colourway on the same container. This lapis plate also matches the lapis noodle bowl, soba bowl and rice bowls.

Is it dishwasher and microwave safe?

We are waiting on the maker's care guidance and will add it here before the stock lands, so we are not going to guess. Until it arrives, hand washing in warm soapy water with a soft sponge is the safe choice for glazed Japanese tableware. Let it dry fully before stacking or putting it away.

When will my pre-order arrive?

This plate is on a container due in the UK in late October 2026. Order now to reserve one, and we will send it out once the stock has landed and been checked in. If the arrival date moves, we will let you know.
