Mino Ware, Ryukyu Rust Arabesque Plate, 265x33mm
265 x 33mm: a large rust arabesque platter, warm-toned and made to be the centre of the table.
Pre-order: arriving in the UK in late October 2026
This Mino ware plate is 265mm across and 33mm high, decorated with a rust-coloured arabesque in the Ryukyu style. It is a true platter size, with a raised rim that keeps juices and sauces where they belong.
Why Chefs Choose This
- Centre-of-table size: 265mm takes a sharing course or a whole fish
- Warm colour: rust tones flatter grilled, roasted and braised food
- A working rim: 33mm high for saucy dishes
- Matches the range: pairs with the rust noodle bowl, rice bowls and soba bowl
How to Use
- Grills and roasts: yakitori, grilled chicken thighs or roast vegetables
- Whole fish: salt-grilled mackerel or sea bream
- Sharing: gyoza, karaage and pickles together
- Rice dishes: curry rice, omurice or yakimeshi
The Ryukyu name looks south to Okinawa, once the Ryukyu Kingdom, whose pottery (yachimun) is known for bold, generous decoration. The arabesque is karakusa (唐草), the scrolling vine pattern that travelled to Japan along the Silk Road and has been a favourite on Japanese tableware ever since. This piece is Mino ware, made in Gifu Prefecture, Japan's largest ceramic tableware region. The rust colourway takes its warmth from iron-red tones, which suit grilled, braised and golden food.
How does the rust plate differ from the lapis one?
Size and shape are the same, 265 x 33mm. The difference is colour: rust is warm and earthy, and lapis is a deep blue. Rust flatters grilled and golden food; lapis makes greens, white fish and rice look crisp. Many people mix the two.

Is this a serving plate or a dinner plate?
Both. At 265mm it is bigger than most dinner plates, so it works as a generous main plate or a platter for two to four people sharing.
Is it dishwasher and microwave safe?
We are waiting on the maker's care guidance and will add it here before the stock lands, so we are not going to guess. Until it arrives, hand washing in warm soapy water with a soft sponge is the safe choice for glazed Japanese tableware. Let it dry fully before stacking or putting it away.
When will my pre-order arrive?
This plate is on a container due in the UK in late October 2026. Order now to reserve one, and we will send it out once the stock has landed and been checked in. If the arrival date moves, we will let you know.
