Mino Ware, Yuzu Glaze Sushi Teacup, 260ml

£9.99

75 x 83mm, 260ml: a tall sushi teacup in a sprayed yuzu glaze, the cup you are handed at a sushi counter.

Pre-order: arriving in the UK in late October 2026

This Mino ware teacup is 75mm across, 83mm high and holds 260ml. The yuzu glaze is sprayed on, so a yellow-green top fades through amber into a rust-brown base. It is the tall, handleless yunomi shape used at sushi counters, where hot green tea is served throughout the meal.

Why Chefs Choose This

  • Sushi-counter shape: the tall yunomi used for agari tea
  • Generous 260ml: plenty of tea without constant top-ups
  • Yuzu glaze: warm green-to-amber colour that sits well beside sushi and wood
  • Everyday price: easy to buy for a full counter or family

How to Use

  • Green tea with sushi: agari, the hot tea served at the sushi bar
  • Everyday tea: sencha, genmaicha or hojicha
  • Cold drinks: iced barley tea or water
  • Utensil pot: chopsticks or brushes on a counter

At a sushi counter, the hot green tea is called agari and is served in a tall, thick cup called a yunomi (湯呑み). Yunomi are traditionally tall and fairly thick, which keeps the tea hot and lets you hold the cup without a handle. Yuzu (柚子) glazes are named after the citrus fruit: the sprayed, speckled surface recalls its skin. Mino ware (美濃焼) comes from the Tono area of Gifu Prefecture, around towns such as Tajimi and Toki, and is Japan's largest ceramic tableware tradition, with more than a thousand years of kiln history behind it.

Why are sushi teacups tall?

A tall, narrow yunomi keeps tea hot for longer and gives you something to hold firmly without a handle. At a sushi counter it is refilled throughout the meal, so a generous size like this 260ml cup makes sense. The same cup works just as well for everyday tea at home.

Will my cup look exactly like the photo?

Close, not identical. The glaze is sprayed and fired, so where the green gives way to amber and brown shifts a little from cup to cup. The shape and size stay the same.

Is it dishwasher and microwave safe?

We are waiting on the maker's care guidance and will add it here before the stock lands, so we are not going to guess. Until it arrives, hand washing in warm soapy water with a soft sponge is the safe choice for glazed Japanese tableware. Let it dry fully before stacking or putting it away.

When will my pre-order arrive?

This teacup is on a container due in the UK in late October 2026. Order now to reserve one, and we will send it out once the stock has landed and been checked in. If the arrival date moves, we will let you know.
