Odani Kokufun, Sweet Green Tea Powder with Uji Matcha, 100g
Pre-order: due to arrive in the UK in mid October 2026
Sweet green tea in a spoonful: Uji matcha and green tea, already sweetened, for iced green tea and lattes without a whisk.
This is the Japanese café-style green tea powder known in Japan simply as green tea (グリーンティー): a sweetened green tea powder with Uji matcha blended in. It is made by Odani Kokufun, a tea and grain-powder company based in Kochi on the island of Shikoku, and comes in a 100g pack. Where ceremonial matcha asks for a bowl, a whisk and some practice, this is built for speed.
Why Chefs Choose This
- Sweetened already: no sugar syrup to make, so drinks come out the same every time
- Uji matcha in the blend: matcha from Uji, the Kyoto tea district, carries the green tea flavour
- No whisk needed: a spoon and a glass are enough, which suits a busy counter
- Small pack: 100g is easy to store and quick to get through while fresh
How to Use
- Iced green tea: stir into cold water or milk over ice for a sweet summer drink
- Green tea latte: mix to a paste with a little warm water, then top up with steamed milk
- Desserts: dust over ice cream or fold into cream and sponge for a sweet matcha note
- Kakigōri: use as the base of a green tea syrup for shaved ice
In Japan, a sweetened green tea powder sold as green tea (グリーンティー) is a different product from matcha (抹茶). Matcha is pure stone- or ball-milled tencha, whisked with hot water and taken without sugar. Green tea powders like this one mix green tea with sugar and a proportion of matcha, and are drunk cold as often as hot. Uji (宇治), south of Kyoto, is Japan's best-known matcha district, and "Uji matcha" on a pack names where the matcha in the blend comes from. Odani Kokufun's name reflects its roots: kokufun (穀粉) means grain powder.
What does sweet green tea powder taste like?
Sweet first, then green. Expect a soft, milky-sweet green tea flavour with a gentle grassy note from the matcha, rather than the bitterness and savoury depth of plain matcha. Made with milk it drinks like a green tea latte; made with cold water it is lighter and more refreshing. Full tasting notes will be added once we have tasted the stock that lands.

Is this the same as matcha?
No. Matcha is pure powdered tencha with nothing added. This is a sweetened green tea powder that contains Uji matcha as part of the blend, made to be stirred into water or milk. For whisked tea or for baking where you control the sugar, use plain matcha.
Can I make it with cold water?
Sweetened green tea powders like this are made to mix into cold drinks as well as hot. For the smoothest result, stir the powder into a splash of water to make a paste first, then add the rest of the water or milk and ice. The maker's own preparation guide will be added to this page when stock lands.
