Marukome, Instant Miso Soup, 12 Sachets
A proper bowl of miso soup with wakame, from a paste sachet, ready in under a minute.
Twelve single-serve sachets of miso soup with wakame from Marukome's Ryotei no Aji (料亭の味) range. Marukome has made miso in Nagano since 1854. The pack is marked nama miso taipu (生みそタイプ, fresh miso type), so each sachet holds miso paste rather than a dried powder, and the bowl tastes closer to scratch-made than most instant soups. Add hot water, stir, done.
Why Chefs Choose This
- Paste, not powder: each sachet holds miso paste, so the flavour sits closer to a made-from-scratch bowl.
- Under a minute: hot water and a stir is all it takes, ideal for staff meals and quick service.
- Single-serve: twelve portioned sachets, no waste and no batch to hold.
- Marukome: miso makers in Nagano since 1854.
How to Use
- Classic bowl: empty a sachet into a bowl or mug, add hot water as directed on the pack and stir.
- Build it up: drop in silken tofu, sliced spring onion or extra wakame to make more of a meal.
- Bento and lunch: the pack pitches it as a partner for a packed lunch; a sachet and a flask of hot water does the job.
- Noodles and greens: use a sachet as a quick seasoned broth for udon or blanched greens.
Miso shiru (味噌汁, miso soup) is the everyday soup of Japan: miso loosened into dashi, often with tofu, wakame or spring onion, and served with rice as part of an ordinary meal. Wakame (若布) is a tender seaweed that softens almost at once in hot liquid, which is why it is the classic partner for instant miso soup. The range name, Ryotei no Aji, means the taste of a ryotei, the formal Japanese restaurant. This is a convenience version of a simple dish, and a good one, because the sachet carries real miso paste.

Pairs with: Marukome instant miso soup with tofu, Marukome white miso paste (1kg) and Tokon cut wakame seaweed for a scratch-made bowl.
What does instant miso soup taste like?
Savoury, gently salty and rounded, with the soft wakame adding a clean marine note. Because the sachet carries miso paste rather than powder, the bowl reads fuller and closer to a simple home-made soup than a typical powdered instant. It is light rather than rich, the sort of soup served alongside rice and a main dish rather than as the centre of the meal. Add tofu or spring onion and it gains body quickly.

How do you make instant miso soup?
Empty one sachet into a bowl or mug, add hot water as directed on the pack, and stir until the paste dissolves. Very hot water helps the miso loosen, but a rolling boil is not needed. To turn it into more of a meal, stir in silken tofu, sliced spring onion, a little extra wakame or some cooked noodles. Taste before adding anything salty, as the sachet is already seasoned.
Is instant miso soup as good as fresh?
It is a convenience version, so a freshly made bowl with your own dashi and a good miso will always have more depth. Because these sachets hold miso paste rather than a dried powder, they land much closer to the real thing than most instant soups. For a quick bowl at the pass, a staff lunch or a packed lunch, they do the job well. When the soup is the dish, make it fresh.
How should I store the sachets?
Keep the bag somewhere cool and dry, out of direct sunlight, and fold it closed after opening. Each sachet is individually sealed, so unopened sachets keep until the date on the pack. Once a sachet is made up, drink it while hot; it is not designed to be held or reheated.
