This Japanese sauce is a fine example of yoshoku food. Western food, but transformed for a Japanese palette. This sauce is served with such fusion dishes as fried pork or chicken cutlet, potato and beef croquette (korokke), fried shrimp (ebifurai sando), and fried oysters (kakifuai). Bulldog Tonkatsu sauce is made from vegetables, spices, and fruit. It is Japan's favourite brand of Tonkatsu sauce.
It has a savoury and slightly sweet flavour that is often described as a blend of Worcestershire sauce and barbecue sauce. It is typically made with a blend of vegetables, fruits, and spices, including tomatoes, apples, onions, garlic, and ginger, which are then combined with soy sauce, vinegar, and sugar to create a rich and flavorful sauce.
Tonkatsu sauce is often served with breaded and deep-fried pork cutlets, known as tonkatsu, but it can also be used as a dipping sauce for other fried foods, such as chicken, shrimp, or vegetables. It can also be used as a marinade or glaze for grilled or roasted meats.
